Selena Gomez Felt 'Bullied' By 'Offensive' 'Saved By The Bell' Kidney Jokes

Selena Gomez found no humor on the Saved by the Bell reboot making light of her 2017 kidney transplant.

According to a source close to ET, the pop titan, 28, wasn’t amused by the Peacock series. "Selena was really upset by the Saved by the Bell scene about her health and thought of it as bullying and offensive," an insider told the celebrity gossip outlet. "She felt as though her kidney transplant, and others who have gone through that, was used as a joke at her expense."

Even though Gomez crediting her friend Francia Raisa as her transplant donor, the sixth episode of the reboot saw the Bayside High students speculate about the identity of the star’s donor after their phones are taken away without internet access. The scenes have since been removed from the series. "I know for a fact that Selena Gomez’s kidney donor was Justin Bieber's mom. God I wish that I had my phone so I could prove it," one character says in a scene, to which another speculates a different theory. “Prove what? That you’re an idiot? It was Demi Lovato's kidney. They’re best friends, like you and I were."

In a separate scene, viewers saw some graffiti on the high school walls, which read, "Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?"

Unsurprisingly, the Gomez disses went viral and Respect Selena Gomez started trending on Twitter, prompting the studio and executive producers to apologize. "We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health," they said in a statement. "We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC."
