Miley Cyrus' 'Prisoner' Duet With Dua Lipa Could Have Featured Shawn Mendes

Was Shawn Mendes once considered for Miley Cyrus' "Prisoner" before the star snagged Dua Lipa? Maybe.

On Wednesday (March 3), Stan Twitter went into overdrive when a demo of Mendes' version of the angsty pop track made the rounds. The version has since been removed from YouTube, but a clip of the track is still on the platform and hears the Canadian star offer his take on the Andrew Watt and the Monsters & Strangerz.-produced cut with tweaked lyrics. "Prisoner, prisoner/ Locked up you got me day and night (day and night)/ Lord knows I'm here to satisfy," he sings on the hook.

"Prisoner" served as the follow-up single to Cyrus' smash, "Midnight Sky," off Plastic Hearts. While the Mendes-featured version of the song was never released, fans do have the pair's on-stage collaboration at the 2019 Grammy Awards when they offered up a performance of "In My Blood" at the ceremony.
